(Rohnert Park, CA) — For the third year in a row, College Student Educators International (ACPA) and Diverse: Issues in Higher Education magazine have named Sonoma State University one of the “Most Promising Places to Work in Student Affairs.”

SSU was selected from hundreds of higher education institutions throughout the nation to receive the award for its emphasis on organizational structure, workplace diversity, staffing practices, and workplace climate and environment. Additional categories included salary and benefits, staff training, and educational and professional development opportunities.

Sonoma State is one of 30 colleges and universities in the nation to receive this distinction and one of four CSU campuses. According to Diverse magazine, this recognition is given annually to institutions with student affairs workplaces regarded as “vibrant, diverse, supportive and committed to a staff work-life balance, professional development, and inclusive excellence.”

“The Division of Student Affairs is honored to be once again recognized as one of the ‘Most Promising Places to Work in Student Affairs’ in the nation," said Dr. Wm. Gregory Sawyer, vice president for Student Affairs. “I am so honored to work with this hard-working and dedicated team of Student Affairs professionals. I could not be more excited for our team being recognized for their commitment and dedication to our students. There is no greater honor than to be recognized by your peers.”

SSU is one of four California State University campuses to receive the national award this year, joining CSU Channel Islands, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and Humboldt State.

In compiling this year’s list of honorees, a research team used a web-based survey to examine categories such as family friendliness, salary and benefits, and professional development opportunities. The colleges and universities will be recognized for these distinctions during the ACPA — College Student Educators International annual meeting, which will take place from March 6 - March 9, 2022, in St. Louis, Missouri. The full findings and rankings were published in the June 10, 2021 edition of Diverse magazine.
